KIS VEX Robotics Club Bylaws
Article 1: NAME
The name of this organization is the Korea International School Vex Robotics Club, which shall be located in Korea International School Secondary Pangyo campus (the “School”).
Article 2: PURPOSE
The purpose of this club is to give students a background in the STEM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The club encourages students to develop skills necessary for engineering related careers including design process, programming, robot building, troubleshooting, and time management. In order to succeed, students will develop the following tasks:
Article 3: ACTIVITIES
Section A: Vex Robotics Competition and Team Formation
Over the year, students will participate in a number of projects and competitions that require them to work with VEX robotics kits. For the VEX Robotics competition, students will be able to compete against other high school teams in regional events all over Korea. The club will have at least three robotics teams, 4091S, 4091K and 4091 V. All teams will be formed by the officer team with a focus on separation by skill and/or experience so that the amount of knowledge gained and work done by members can be optimized.
Section B: After school Session
To prepare the VEX Robotics competition, the club will host after school sessions allowing students to work on skills necessary for the engineering field.
Article 4: MEMBERSHIP
All students who are enrolled in Korea International School High School are welcome to join the club. There are no grade restrictions for joining the club and students do not need to have experience in robotics to join the club. Any members who violate a rule in the student handbook may have their memberships in the club revoked. Any students who may pose a risk to themselves or their fellow club members by disregarding and/or violating any regards to safety will have their memberships revoked. Members are subject to the terms and rules stated in article VII, the club guidelines, which all club members must adhere to or face having their memberships revoked. These guidelines are established for the safety of all club members.
Article 5: ADVISOR
The club shall have a faculty member who will serve as an advisor for the club, attend all club meetings, and supervise all club activities. This year, the club advisor will be Mr. Paul Livesey.
Article 6: Officers
Section: A General Officer Guidelines
All officers must uphold the club’s constitution at all times. All club officers should stay in contact over the following summer and research possible project topics as well as the new VEX Robotics competition challenge.The officer's responsibilities are as follows:
Section B: Description and Responsibilities of the Treasurer
The treasurer handles the club’s funds and confirms that the club’s funding calculations are correct. The responsibilities of the Treasurer are as follows:
Section C: Description and Responsibilities of the IT Webmaster
The webmaster must have a camera that is capable of taking photographs and recording video. S/he must also have technical experience with websites. The historian/webmaster documents the club’s ‘history’ throughout the year. The responsibilities of the historian/webmaster are as follows:
Article 7: VEX MEETINGS
VEX Meetings will be held during lunch in room MB101 unless stated otherwise by the club advisor. The advisor will be present at all times to ensure the safety and the success of club members.
Article 8: Club Guidelines
Section A: Safety Rules and Safety References
The purpose of these safety rules is to ensure that everyone can work and coexist in a safe environment. Everyone has a responsibility to the safety of the club and to themselves.
Section B: Members Guidelines
Secondary guidelines are needed to describe the restrictions that students must follow to be recognized as members of the club. These secondary guidelines are described as follows:
Section C: Competition Team Guidelines
The teams formed from the members of the club must abide by these following guidelines:
Article 9: AMENDMENTS
This bylaws may be altered, amended or repealed and new Bylaws may be adopted by a resolution of the Meeting. The proposed amendment must then have unanimous approval from all the officers and the advisor in order for the amendment to be added to the constitution. Any member is allowed to propose.

- Club members will develop skills that are vital for STEM related careers.
- Club members will complete a series of projects and attend competitions

- Must take over responsibilities if certain officers are not fulfilling their duties;
- Must be present to the majority of the club’s meeting days;
- Must sign paperwork that requires the club president’s signature;
- Is in charge of handling the succeeding year’s club officer selection;
- Is in charge of designating and organizing club competitions.
Section B: Description and Responsibilities of the Treasurer
The treasurer handles the club’s funds and confirms that the club’s funding calculations are correct. The responsibilities of the Treasurer are as follows:
- Must sign paperwork that requires the club treasurer’s signature;
- Is in charge of the club’s annual fundraisers;
- Is in charge of any payments made by or to the club (i.e. club shirts, fundraising material, club competitions, etc.);
- Is in charge of all donations and funds given to the club;
Section C: Description and Responsibilities of the IT Webmaster
The webmaster must have a camera that is capable of taking photographs and recording video. S/he must also have technical experience with websites. The historian/webmaster documents the club’s ‘history’ throughout the year. The responsibilities of the historian/webmaster are as follows:
- Must attend majority of club events (i.e. club competitions, Club’s Day, etc.);
- Is in charge of recording videos and taking picture of the club and its events;
- Is in charge of updating the club’s website monthly with news and/or upcoming events.

VEX Meetings will be held during lunch in room MB101 unless stated otherwise by the club advisor. The advisor will be present at all times to ensure the safety and the success of club members.
Article 8: Club Guidelines
Section A: Safety Rules and Safety References
The purpose of these safety rules is to ensure that everyone can work and coexist in a safe environment. Everyone has a responsibility to the safety of the club and to themselves.
- Students who are seen committing an act that endangers the safety of their fellow club members and/or themselves will be removed from the club.
- All members must wear safety goggles at all times when using hand tools or when working on a robot. The only exception is when the advisor is making an announcement, then it is not required to wear safety goggles. Members with prescription or non-prescription glasses must also wear safety glasses.
- Keep full control of the robot at all times with no one in its path. Keep the robot in the practice area when testing. Robots are not allowed to run on top of the tables.
- If a student damages equipment used in the club, s/he may be liable to replace the equipment with his/her own funds. *Note: all equipment used in the club is expensive*
- When using hand tools, members must confirm that they are in good and usable condition.
- Members must place robots on a bench or hard surface when working on them.
- After using a tool, members must return it to the appropriate storing location.
Section B: Members Guidelines
Secondary guidelines are needed to describe the restrictions that students must follow to be recognized as members of the club. These secondary guidelines are described as follows:
- All club members are recommended to participate in club-wide fundraisers.
- In order to join the club, prospective members must fill out club applications and pay a membership fee. Fees are subject to change every year.
- All club members must respect their fellow peers and practice gracious professionalism.
- Club members must clean up their own trash and clean up all robotics parts, regardless of whom they were used by, at the end of the lunch period.
Section C: Competition Team Guidelines
The teams formed from the members of the club must abide by these following guidelines:
- Teams must follow all club and competition guidelines.
- There is no member limit or set positions for all teams, but it is recommended that each team have at least four club members, with positions being the team leader, driver, programmer, and builder.
